finn hill middle school
Kirkland, Washington
[with Mahlum Architects]

Five groups of classrooms, each anchored by a science lab, step down the site, each clustered around a small sheltered courtyard connected to a habitat raingarden.

Common spaces are simple tall volumes with beautiful, balanced daylight; natural materials and exposed glu-lam beams; and strong connections from inside to outside.

An efficient structural insulated panel system and excellent daylighting contribute to this project’s achieving WSSP status, Washington state’s version of LEED for schools. The school also boasts the largest installation of photovoltaic panels on a school in the state.
