john muir es early learning addition
Seattle, WA completed The design brief from Seattle Public Schools was clear; to ensure that the Early Learning addition created a seamless transition to the existing John Muir Elementary School, which was largely constructed in 1991 by Streeter/Dermanis Architects. The program consists of 3 preschool classrooms, an after-school care room, and associated support spaces for students and faculty. The entry to the preschool classroom is organized around a welcoming central entry space with good visibility to the classrooms, kitchen and program office. Multilingual welcome signage, a child-sized door and children’s art tiles welcomes families in. A covered entry provides a place to play during rainy weather. Classrooms are distinguished by balanced daylight, operable windows, and cozy corner areas for reading. Child’s restrooms – which are an important part of the early learning environment - have positive affirmation language on mirrors and room for changing tables for maximum program flexibility. |
